Tany died in the early hours of Saturday after his car was said to have collided with a structure while driving in Jangheung County, in the south west of South Korea.
The young musician had been on the Namhae Expressway on his way to the city of Mokpo, which is located at the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula.
In a statement, the singer's agency, HOM Company, said: "Tany passed away on the 14th of April overnight as he was driving his car from Jangdong-myun, Jangheung County to Mokpo on the Namhae Expressway where he crashed into a structure, with the car completely destroyed."
Tany, whose real name is Kim Jin-soo, rose to fame in December 2016 with "Always Remember" - a song in honour of the victims of the Sewol Ferry Disaster.
In April 2014 a 6,825-ton vessel called MV Sewol sunk while carrying 476 people who were predominantly secondary school students. A total of 304 passengers and crew members died in the disaster.
The singer was reportedly with another person when the accident took place. The individual is believed to have died but their details are yet to be released.
Fans have paid tribute to the singer on Twitter and shared their favourite songs of his.
"It's a sad morning today, we have lost another talented idol at such a young age. Please keep Tany in your minds and prayers today and his family, friends, and fans who loved him so dearly. You will be missed," said a Twitter user.
Another added: “I always find myself listening to Tany whenever I feel down. His music videos and songs are pure art. His voice brings me at ease and never fails to comfort me. I was really anticipating for his new album. I will ALWAYS REMEMBER you, Tany.”

Kim Dong-yoon
K-pop boy band idol,
passes away at age 20

A member of rookie K-pop boy band
Spectrum, Kim Dong-yoon, dies on Friday at the age of 20. With the cause of
death still unknown, many fans have begun speculating that the young rising
star succumbed to overwork.
Publicly, the young man showed no
signs of illness and the boy group's official Twitter had even posted photos of
Kim a day before he died.
The idol's representatives, Wynn
Entertainment, announced the tragic news without revealing the cause of death,
upsetting many fans who began speculating that the company had pushed Kim too
hard. High stress and long work hours are common for South Korean entertainers.
Kim's family have also found the
lack of information unacceptable and are calling for a post-mortem examination.
According to reports, the young
180-centimeter-tall entertainer weighed only 56 kilograms and he was busy
preparing for some commercial events before his death.
According to the company's
announcement, Kim's funeral will be held privately in accordance with his
family's wishes.
Shin Sung Il
In a new biography, actor Shin
Sung-il revealed for the first time his love affair and pregnancy with his
deceased ex-lover, newscaster and actress Kim Young-ae.
At a press conference for his new
book “Youth is Barefoot Running” on Dec. 5, the veteran actor spoke of his past
extra-martial affair with actress Kim whilst he was still married to his wife,
actress Eum Aeng-ran.
The 74-year-old film star said that
his new book contains the never-before-told story about Shin’s affair with Kim,
which began in 1973.
“It’s not right to love another
when you are married, but this woman that I loved is now dead. She died in a
car accident and that’s why I can now talk about it. It’d be wrong and cowardly
for me to speak of her if she was still alive.”
The actor said he met up with Kim
mostly overseas and found out about her pregnancy through an overseas call from
the actress.
“This happened back in the days
when you had to shout to hear the caller from overseas. I went to a friend’s office
to avoid family members to talk to her. I should have been more vocal to her
but I said nothing. Then she said, ‘I’ll take care of it’ and later I found out
she got an abortion,” Shin said.
According to Shin, the couple was
reunited a year later at the Berlin Film Festival. He also said that Kim was
“the greatest love of his life.”
Shin is a celebrated film star in
Korea best known for the movie “Romance Papa” from the 1960s.
